The Dutch predecessor of Santa Claus, Sinterklaas, will be on site during Magic at the Mill! Meet him, grab a photo, and you’ll even receive a chocolate coin - a Dutch holiday tradition!
TULIP & COVER CROP FIELDS
With the backdrop of our historic Dutch Windmill, our 2 acres of tulip fields are a sight to behold in mid-spring – but they don’t lose their magic when the tulip petals drop! See rotational cover-cropping at work throughout the summer as the ground prepares for another spectacular tulip display.

Admission to Windmill Island Gardens is $13 for adults, $6 for youth ages 3-15, and under 3 can enter the park free!
Please note admission costs change during some programming and during the Tulip Time Festival. More info about Tulip Time can be found here.

Windmill Island Gardens is a seasonal park open mid April - October. Park hours are 9:30am - 6:00pm with last admission sold at 5:00pm 7 days a week including holidays!

Yes, we have manual wheelchairs guests can use during their visit. These are available through Visitor Services, and are first come, first served. There is no fee to rent a wheelchair, but we will hold on to your drivers license until the chair is returned.
Most of the 36-acre park is accessible on foot or by wheelchair. However, the windmill is about 1/4 of a mile from the entrance and reaching the upper floors requires climbing stairs. A video tour of the entire windmill plays on a loop in the Post House Visitor Center for those interested. -
Tulips only bloom for about 2 weeks in the early spring. The best time to see them is late April or early May. The rest of our season, we have thousands of beautiful annual and perennial plants to enjoy!
During the last week of July, our annual and perennial displays are looking amazing! We invite you to check out Windmill Island Gardens during Peak Bloom Week to see a spectacular show of color. Our horticulture staff plants thousands of annuals in over 80 varieties throughout 40 beds and 70 containers. This is In addition to the wide variety of perennials throughout the rest of the gardens! -
Our Gift Shop contains a wide variety of Dutch treats and souvenirs. Please note that tulips are ordered and shipped in the fall.

With over 36 acres and a variety of attractions to explore, we'd encourage you to allow 2 or more hours for your visit.
Please note more time should be planned during the Tulip Time Festival due to significantly increased crowds and wait times.

Yes, our parking lot is able to accommodate around 250 vehicles.
Please note during the Tulip Time Festival, parking is extremely limited and offsite parking is recommended.

While we do not currently offer advance admission, guests may purchase a membership online HERE,which provides free access to our site and free/reduced access to dozens of other American Horticultural Society reciprocal gardens in the US and Canada. Please allow 2 weeks for your membership card to arrive.

Only drone operations that strictly follow all FAA regulations are permitted. Drone operations must be flown within Visual Line of Sight and not flown directly over people. Operators must adhere to either 49 USC 44809 (Recreational) or 14 CFR Part 107 (Civil). Operators must show their Part 107 Card or FAA TRUST training certificate upon request.

There are some snack options available for purchase in our Gift Shop, however, there are no dining options in the park. -
Pets are allowed into the park during our regular season with the exclusion of the Windmill and Gift Shop due to food processing. Pets will need to be leashed and picked up after. We have Doggie-Pot bag dispensers available to our visitors around the park. Please note that there may be restrictions on pets during special events including the Run of the Mill 5k and Magic at the Mill.
