YOUR VISIT
A beautiful oasis on the edge of downtown Holland, Windmill Island Gardens features an original working Dutch windmill named "De Zwaan" (The Swan, or Graceful Bird) brought over from the Netherlands in 1964. The windmill, which reaches 125 feet from the ground to the top of the blades, towers over 36 acres of gardens, dikes, canals, and picnic areas. Currently, self-guided tours of the windmill are available during park hours.

The Tulip Time Festival is a very popular period to visit our park, and we encourage visits on weekdays or outside of the Tulip Time Festival dates to ensure access to the park. We usually have tulips in bloom just before and just after the festival. The weekends of the Tulip Time Festival are especially busy and our parking lot will fill up – weekdays tend to be a little less busy, but we encourage visitors to plan on large crowds.
-
Our tulips generally begin blooming in late April and last through mid-May. We have a wide variety of tulips so they cascade into color throughout several weeks rather than all blooming at once for a longer blooming period!
You can take a look at the City of Holland's Tulip Tracker HERE to see the progress of tulips around town!
-
With thousands of guests in town, parking can be a challenge. During the festival we utilize our parking lot the best we are able. Often on the weekends (and occasionally during the week), the lot will be shut to facilitate traffic flow in town. On the weekends we run a free shuttle from the top of our causeway to the park entrance for those who park in town (saves about a half mile walk each way.)
